About Me
The story of my life is not terribly unique or interesting, but it is my story, this is my website, and I like to talk about myself (probably too much), so I am going to type a few words about myself here.
I was born in Louisville, Kentucky on October 30, 1986 to Sandra and Harry Kahne. I lived in Louisville until the age of 18. I attended DuPont Manual High School, where I graduated from the ‘Math, Science, and Technology’ magnet program and also played saxophone in the Youth Performing Arts School band. I was active in the Young Democrats and the environmental club at Manual, played in the jazz band, and even played football for two years.
I earned two Bachelor degrees at the University of Kentucky in Political Science and Economics. In my four years of undergraduate study in Lexington, I was active in a great many clubs, and if you are curious as to what those clubs were, they are listed in my resume. I was very active on campus, and being active in several diverse activities was very important to me while I was an undergraduate.
After earning two different Bachelor’s Degrees at UK, I was accepted into the Martin School of Public Policy, where I earned a Master’s degree in 2011. In graduate school I continued to be active on campus, but I also spent considerable time gaining experience in my assistantship. From 2009-2011, I worked for various sustainability initiatives at the University of Kentucky, including coordinating an energy demand reduction competition between all of the residence halls and graduate housing on campus, as well as supervising ‘Eco-Reps’ from most residence halls. From 2010 to 2011, I was the President of the Student Sustainability Council, a fee-receiving student group in charge of stewarding $60,000 of UK student’s money. I was able to apply many of the public and non-profit management skills learned in my classes to this experience.
Skills which I learned in graduate school range from statistical analysis and econometrics to program evaluation and public funds/financial management. I currently work in the healthcare sector where I am making great strides learning about this complex and exciting industry.
I currently work at Healthcare Strategy Group in Louisville. We are a private consulting firm--I work in many spheres there but specialize in developing strategic plans for hospitals and also with regulatory compliance.
I have many interests. I follow current events very closely and try to be as connected to what is going on in the world as I possibly can be. I also watch a lot of sports. I listen a considerable amount of music, and am a volunteer DJ at WRFL, Lexington’s college radio station. I also love film and art in general. I have co-hosted Surreelfilm, a film discussion show on WRFL. I love to go to concerts or theatrical performances. In short, I like most things and try hard to know as much about as many topics as I possibly can.
My spirituality is also very important to me. I became a Christian at the age of 8, and have spent the rest of my life trying to figure out what that really means. My journey of spiritual refinement has taken me many places, both physical and emotional, but at all time and in all places I strive to be as much like Christ as possible. However, my view about what Christ was like is likely quite different from what you may initially expect in many cases. I taught Sunday School at Calvary Baptist Church in Lexington, where I was a watchcare member between 2006 and 2011.
I enjoy my life. I like who I am, and I like having strong opinions and interests. I am a good friend and neighbor, and I try to work as hard as I can to do the very best job that I am able to do.
